A millivolt or intermittent pilot ignition system is available. The millivolt valve system does not use electricity, but it does have a standing pilot that allows operation with hi-low heat and flame control during a power outage. The electronic intermittent pilot ignition employs an electrode to ignite the pilot. When the appliance is not in use, the IPI system guarantees that the pilot flame extends across the burner for rapid activation and saves energy. A pipe inside a pipe (usually 4" inside/7" outside) makes up the coaxial vent system. The interior pipe is used for exhaust, and the outside pipe is used for bringing in outside air for combustion.
